You are busy and a call comes. It’s one of your listed numbers. You disconnect with a text message “ I will call you back soon”. But never call back. The caller would have called to follow up on a request she made to you. Or to chase up on some work she would have entrusted you with. Or maybe some proposal/work she submitted to you for review. Similarly, instead of a call, it’s a WhatsApp message with a request. You don’t respond even after reading.

I have observed people who are successful and those not so successful and how they respond to calls, messages, reach outs- the styles are completely different. When I say successful, it means people who are in control of the situation that they are in. Control means that they are in the situation or activity or event or position and are contributing positively to the outcome of the situation that they are in. They are not critiques or commentators or spectators. Such type of people who I refer to as successful, irrespective of the station of life they are in, always will get back.

If they can help, they help. If they can’t, they say so upfront with an apology. No excuse. If they are still considering a proposal which has been sent and hasn’t been been able to make up his/her mind, they say so. If they are not able to respond to the call or whatsap by the end of the day, they send a message saying they will get back on a specific date as they are busy now or on a tour or something which is the truth, not an untruth. They have self confidence and respect their own self and capability.

Not responding, giving untrue excuses, avoiding calls or messages reflect lack of self-worth or unclear mind or lack of self-confidence or last but not least an inflated ego. In every situation, control is not in your hands. The choice is yours. decide whether you are in control or not in control.
